Student Story ~ Heather Ho
With the September semester rapidly approaching, we wanted to share the stories of two new students who will be joining us. Heather Ho has a fascination with costume and is excited to build her skill-set to launch a career in film and television.
Meet Heather Ho - Fall 2021
Who you are as a Designer?
I always strive to understand myself and others. We all have different life experiences and personalities, so our styles should differ from each other. But under the influence of fast fashion, we are having an identity crisis. It seems that advertising flyers decide how we are, rather than our conscious mind. I want to understand people's characteristics and be able to produce something which can help them be more comfortable in their own skin. We all need a little boost in self-esteem.
Why did you choose The Cut for your education?
I choose The Cut as it offers a great curriculum that can give me a solid foundation for my dream career in costume design. I can not only develop professional skills in garment construction and fashion marketing but also understand the actual workflow of the costume department through working under true film industry experts. Moreover, the smaller class sizes at The Cut allows me to develop close relationships with the tutors and my classmates. I am looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the fashion industry through learning from them.
What are your plans upon graduating?
I am highly interested in costume design for the film industry. In my leisure time, I enjoy watching a good film that I can totally immerse myself in. Many of the films amaze me with their own unique background and story plot which is totally different from the real world. I would like to get a job in the costume department for movies and television shows upon graduating. It would be a great pleasure to help make the film characters realistic by exercising my creativity and the knowledge I have gained in education.
What excites you the most about this next step in your life?
This is the first time I have turned my hobby of sewing into a future job. There would be many difficulties to encounter, but I am very excited to have better access to a much wider range of fashion-related resources. I am also happy that my tutors would guide me through the process. They can support my study greatly by providing insights into possible research directions and hands-on experience.
We are excited to welcome Heather to The Cut Fashion Design Academy this fall! If you are interested in joining us, registration for September 2021 and January 2022 is open and accepting both Domestic and International Students.
