Olivia Asgari ~ Portfolio Prep Student Lands Her Dream School

When you grow up dreaming of runway shows, stealing your mom’s Vogue magazines, and obsessing over the glitz and glamour of the fashion industry, there is little that can stop you from becoming the fashionista that you were destined to become.

Then you must snap out of it when suddenly you are required to create a portfolio to get into your dream school like Parsons School of Design, Central St. Martins, and SCAD! But where do you start? What do you need to include? How do you draw? These are some of the questions we can help you answer during our Portfolio Preparation class taken by alumni Olivia Asgari.

SCAD was Olivia’s dream school since representatives came to her high school when she was in Grade 11. Instantly she knew she had to go there! Olivia spent two years attending sewing and design classes with The Cut Fashion Academy before she set her sights on SCAD. Once she revealed it was her dream school we began to help her create the portfolio that ultimately led to her SCAD acceptance!

With us, she created two capsule collections and a gorgeous dress submission. Olivia’s collections were inspired by the nature surrounding her and the magazine clippings that her mom had been saving her for years. She used muted tones and manufactured textures to create her collections.

Sneak Peek into Olivia’s Capsule Collection

Fast forward to the present day and Olivia has just started her journey at SCAD, she shared that “what I’m most excited about getting into a creative industry is that there are really no limits.”

We asked Olivia to share some of her biggest takeaways from the portfolio creation process and she said one of her biggest learnings was to not be afraid to mess up, because that’s when you do your best work.

We can’t wait to see how Olivia grows in the industry, and we’re so happy we were able to help her achieve acceptance to her dream school!
