Melissa McSorley
Following in her mother and grandmother’s footsteps, Melissa chose a career in the fashion industry and has been teaching for the last three years. She is a graduate from the Art Institute of Vancouver’s Fashion Design and Merchandising program. After a successful pattern making internship while in her second-to-last quarter, Melissa started working in the industry three months before graduation. Since graduation, Melissa has been building her skill set in contract pre-production manufacturing, wearing many hats. She also works with her own clients as a seamstress, doing alterations and one-of-a-kind projects.
Joanna Delaney
Joanna Delaney has extensive experience in couture. After receiving initial training at Helen Lefeaux College of Fashion Design in 2001, she honed her skills at Something Blue Vancouver for ten years, leaving as Head Tailor for their private label. During this time, she received a Bachelor of Design in Fashion Design and Technology from Kwantlen Polytechnic University and has since taught Pattern Making and Garment Construction at the same program she graduated from. Joanna has worked for two of Vancouver's corporate fashion giants, Lululemon and Aritzia. She gained experience as Fit Technician and Developer at both companies, working with Designers, Pattern Makers and offshore factories to ensure impeccable fit and quality of garments before going into production. Joanna started her Bridal Couture business in 2013 and has since served hundreds of brides – both in Vancouver and internationally, creating one of a kind custom gowns by hand. This experience has given her great depth in understanding the female form and has contributed to her reputation as one of Vancouver's finest and well-respected couturieres. Outside of fashion, Joanna finds balance in nature, the arts and international travel. She is passionate about the wellbeing of people and has also taught yoga and meditation over the years – which has in turn, fuelled the success of her creative work.
