Student Stories: Bronwyn Jeeves, Studying from New Zealand

When Bronwyn Jeeves, a full-time accountant and mother of two who lives in Whangarei, New Zealand, wanted to take Pattern-making online, little did she know that her search would not be easy. She found that accredited schools offering live and recorded classes in fashion design and especially in the basics are really hard to find. Her story is no different from others around the world who turned to the internet for help during the past few years.

What you may not know is that The Cut Fashion Design Academy is the only accredited fashion and design academy in North America (and possibly the world) offering students à la carte options when it comes to their education. No more careers cut short or dreams put on hold by an obligation to enroll in one to three years of classes.

We are so happy that Bronwyn found The Cut and took a moment to learn more about her for today’s Student Stories!

What is the full name of the course that you are taking at The Cut?

Pattern Making & Assembling Technique

Why did you originally decide to apply at The Cut for your education?

I applied to The Cut because they offer a course I’ve always wanted to do (Pattern Making) online. I live in Whangarei, New Zealand and I haven’t been able to find an online course that offers as much as this one.

What skills are you looking forward to learning this semester?

I’m looking forward to learning how to make block patterns to fit me - then I can learn & adapt them going forward.

What are your plans upon graduating?

I’d love to continue on and do a computer-aided pattern drafting course - perhaps in the following year. Then I can start designing pieces to eventually start my own personal styling business.

What excites you the most about 2022?

Being able to do this course - it’s taken me 20 years to actually do a pattern-making course!

Bronwyn’s favourite designers Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, and Trelise Cooper.

Who are some of your favourite fashion designers or creators?

Karen Walker, Kate Sylvester, Trelise Cooper.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time I love to sew (mainly for myself), collect fabric, read, and catch-up as often as possible with my great group of friends.

If you are like Bronwyn and are looking to upgrade your skills in the basics - sewing, pattern-making, construction - our 2022 semester is open for registration! Drop a line to admissions@the-cuttingroom.com and we will work together to get you into the courses you need to succeed.
