3D Integration in the fashion industry is not a trend or a fad, it's here to stay. Businesses and entrepreneurs big and small will need to adopt it to stream line their work processes and keep up with competitors. We caught up with Product Specialist Nora Shaughnessy to better understand why 3D is a crucial aspect to the future of fashion creativity.

As a product specialist, how have you seen 3D integration already impact your personal work and the industry as a whole?

It has been integral in helping us make up lost time due to sample and shipping delays. I have also noticed how much more effective 3D renders are for displaying conceptual lines to sales/marketing stake holders. It has helped significantly in allowing BN3TH to increase speed to market and improve sampling timeline.

Why is 3D integration crucial to the future of fashion Creativity?

3D allows designers and pattern makers to experiment and trial designs in a a low cost way, decreasing sampling issues and timelines, as well as, aiding the marketing teams with assets for designs that are not yet finalized.

Are there any companies that are already pushing and advancing 3D technologies in their workflow or customer experience?

Large companies throughout the industry are using 3D to sell designs before they have arrived- in Canada Arc’teryx, Lululemon and Aritzia are putting a value on 3D to push forward and innovate new product.

What can businesses and workers in the fashion industry do to embrace this new technology and system?

It is a learning curve, however taking courses and learning new technology is integral in helping a business to get to the next level and maintain a foothold in the industry. Platforms such as CLO and Browzwear offer comprehensive training for new users.

What new roles or employment opportunities do you see emerging in the industry caused by the emergence and embrace of 3D technology?

I have seen 3D design positions pop up throughout the industry, allowing customers to view and preorder new designs and designer to innovate rapidly. Additionally it is valuable for pattern makers to review their designs before the final sample. For many companies it is an asset to set you above the competition for a position.
